Namak (noun.) also know as Salt in english can be found globally in every kitchen as it is the most basic ingredient used for cooking, added to salads, vegetable fries, curries (with cumin(jeera), chillies (mirchi), ginger (adrak), garlic(lehsun)) and baked dishes. 

There are many different types of salts used in Indian cooking – table salt (it is rich in iodine), kosher salt (it has longer grains and it does not contain iodine), sea salt (sea salt is produced from the evaporation of seawater and it be rich in minerals and take more time to dissolve in water).

The type low sodium salt is often found at stores that are useful to people suffering from blood pressure. Indian cuisine uses mountain salt or pink salt that is collected from Himalayan deposits.
