Chole (noun.) - White chickpeas (or garbanzo beans) are an all-natural food. In India, it is also called Kabuli Chana. Kabuli meaning "from Kabul" in Hindi, since they were thought to have come from Afghanistan when first seen in India. It is the type widely grown throughout the Mediterranean. 

Another variety of Chickpea is the Desi (meaning "country" or "local"); it is also called Bengal gram or Kala chana.  Punjabi chole masala or chana masala are some of the most popular curry dishes made up of chickpea. In fact, in north India, no wedding or party is complete without a chole dish on the menu as it is available all round the year.  

Punjabi chole cooked in herbs, ginger- garlic and onion, is served with bhatura. Chole bhature is a famous street food served as breakfast at dhabas and North Indian restaurants.
