What is the origin of Tiffin

What is the origin of Tiffin ?

Tiffin is a midday meal or lunch or dejeuner used as a slight repast. It is a British slang term used for second breakfast or light meal. The word was used in the Indian subcontinent when the Indian customs superseded the practice of tea where the new word Tiffin was used for the mid-day meal.

Tiffing means taking a little drink or sip. In Mumbai, it is often forwarded by dabbawalas or the tiffin wallahs, the team of workers who use a complex system to transport thousands of Indian homemade tiffin boxes to their destinations. A regular homemade Indian Tiffin service contains rice (chawal), dal, roti, and spicy curry.
