What is halva made of ?

Halva is a North Indian sweet dish made from semolina, sugar and clarified butter. One type of Halva can be found in the Middle East and East European delicacy that is made up of dense nut butter or tahini (sesame paste).

Each region has its variety of halva and the sesame based version is famous in the US. In Jewish halva (halvah) the ingredient is tahini, sugar or honey. Tahini and sweeter are stirred together and then cooled to get the dish.

The Indian, Greek or Iranian version is made by stir-frying semolina in clarified butter and then adding sweetener.  In this type of halva, semolina can be replaced by other flours like gram flour(Besan) or wheat flour.
