What is the traditional Indian food ?

The typical traditional Indian foods contain chapati (roti) or rice served with different varieties of karahi curry, tarka daal and dry fry vegetables, chutney(sauce), pickles, pakoras, papad (Poppadom)  and snacks.  A typical Indian vegetarian meal includes many different types of freshly cooked green vegetables, curd and a sweet dish( served with rice, chapati, dal, vegetable curries, pickles and chutneys).

Traditional North Indian meals included tandoori cuisine where whole wheat flour dough, prepared with yoghurt, was rolled and cooked in a tandoor(oven). The traditional south Indian cuisine is known for dosas that are the pancakes made from fermented rice batter.

Most traditional non-vegetarian foods were brought to the sub-continent by Muslim invaders who came from Central Asia and Persia. Some of the famous non-vegetarian dishes are biriyani, Mughlai mutton, lamb curry, chicken/mutton tikka, tandoori kebab and chicken butter masala.
