Jeera Rice

Jeera Rice

Cumin is a spice made from the seeds of the Cuminum cyminum plant. It is said that Cumin has a traditional use for digestion by increasing the activity of a digestive enzyme, potentially speeding Digestion.

Traditionally Jeera infused water was given to women after giving birth to help with their digestion, lactating mothers were also given this water along with celery seeds infused.

You can get many of cumin's benefits just by using small amounts as a seasoning, Cumin has many evidence-based health benefits. Some of these have been known since ancient times, while others are only just being discovered.

Using cumin as a spice increases antioxidant intake, promotes digestion, provides iron and is said to improve blood sugar control.

Cumin lends its distinctive flavor to chili, tamales and various Indian curries. Its flavour has been described as warm, earthy, nutty and spicy.

I personally prefer to use cumin in cooking rather than as a supplement, and Cumin rice makes a delicious dish, when accompanied with any dish cooked with Indian herbs and spices.
